Organic Raspberry Seed Oil

by Travis Gerhart
Organic Raspberry Seed Oil

Raspberry seed oil (Rubus idaeus L.) is a carrier oil extracted from the seeds of the raspberry fruit. It is rich in antioxidants, including vitamin E and polyphenols. It is also a good source of essential fatty acids, including linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids. It is slightly cloudy and yellowish in color. This yellowish tinge to the oil is given by its elevated levels of carotenoids. Raspberry seed oil has a unique composition, with high levels of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, making it a versatile and nourishing oil for the skin. Raspberry seed oil has a light, non-greasy texture. It is easily absorbed by the skin, providing hydration and nourishment without leaving a heavy, oily residue. The oil is also known for its potential to protect and repair the skin from environmental damage and improve the appearance of aging skin, making it a popular choice for skincare products.

The oil creates a barrier that helps the skin retain moisture, keeping skin cells youthful and fresh. Raspberry seed oil is ideal as an addition to other carrier oils like Jojoba and/or MCT oil to ease application. It adds hydration, sun protection, and nourishing vitamins to your skincare routine.

Raspberry seed oil is made using a cold-pressed green extraction process to preserve nutrient profiles. This involves mechanically pressing the seeds of the raspberry fruit to extract the oil. The oil is then filtered and refined to remove impurities and improve its quality.

Raspberry seed oil is a bright amber and clear oil

Raspberry seed oil is a luminous and rich carrier oil concentrate.

The final product is a clear, bright amber-colored oil with a light, fruity aroma. No heat or chemicals are used to produce cold-pressed raspberry seed oil, preserving its natural nutrients and antioxidants.

Raspberry seed oil offers several benefits as a facial oil. It is rich in several phytonutrients, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. Here is a list of the most beneficial aspects of Raspberry seed oil:

• Antioxidant-rich: Raspberry seed oil is rich in polyphenols, protecting the skin from environmental and sun damage. Polyphenols from Raspberry seed oil possess a unique molecular profile characterized primarily by their anthocyanin and ellagitannin (ellagic acid) content. Ellagic acid brightens the complexion while preventing collagen's destruction by reducing inflammation related to UVB radiation and minimizing the risk of premature aging associated with inflammation and environmental skin damage. Anthocyanins are antioxidants considered to be naturally photoprotective against UV damage and promote the reduction of inflammation secondary to sun damage. The direct anti-inflammatory effect stabilizes collagen in the skin while reducing the signs of premature aging.

• Moisturizing, Soothing, & Balancing: Rich in essential fatty acids, such as Omega-3 and Omega-6, it helps hydrate, balance, and nourish the skin, improving its texture and overall appearance. Raspberry seed oil contains Vitamin E (alpha, delta, gamma-tocopherol & tocotrienols). It is known to possess antioxidant properties that slow the effects of aging while improving circulation. Vitamin E also helps to prevent moisture loss, cleanse pores, balance oil production, soothe damaged skin, and provide healing support to scarred or blemished skin.

• Non-comedogenic: It does not clog pores, making it suitable for oily or acne-prone skin.

• UV protection: Rich in carotenoids containing a natural SPF, offering protection against the harmful effects of UV rays and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Carotenoids such as zeaxanthin, β-carotene, lutein, and cryptoxanthin are plant-derived sources of antioxidants and vitamins. Carotenoids are popular antioxidants and ingredients in anti-aging skincare products because they reduce the signs of premature aging, hydrate, smooth, soothe, balance, and nourish the skin. They also support and maintain collagen structure directly related to the skin's elasticity, softness, and suppleness.

• Anti-inflammatory: Phytosterols help soothe irritated skin and reduce redness while improving the skin's barrier function. They are in high concentrations in Raspberry seed oil, such as campesterol, stigmasterol, sitosterol, avenasterol, & cytrostadienol. Phytosterols exhibit potent anti-inflammatory effects while promoting repair, improved elasticity, decreased roughness, and increased collagen and hyaluronic acid production. They also possess UV-protective attributes against the higher energy UVB and UVC rays.
